Proper alignment
EMS internal planning / procurement and program management staffing is best prepared when your EMS partner chooses his functional team members for your OEM program based on each person’s expertise matching your product program needs.
Some helpful tips to keep in mind:
- If your OEM product contains a high number of components, the EMS planner assigned to your OEM program should have purchasing experience.
- If your product requires fair amounts of sheet metal, light pipes/plastics, and other enclosures your EMS should staff his team with buyers that have planning expertise.
- For OEM products with high-cost ASICS its best if your EMS partner has separate planners and separate buyers. Both functional team reps should attend defect reduction team meetings hosted weekly by your provider, with OEM functional counterparts also attending.
