Selecting a new EMS manufacturing partner when costs reduction is not working

From a cost perspective, as an electronics OEM decision maker you expect to work with your EMS partner to drive cost out of your EMS solution. And if you’re looking at another EMS partner for reasons other than moving to a dual-sourcing solutions, its likely because your current EMS partner is not working with you on achieving your cost reduction targets.

You want an EMS manufacturing partner that proactively works with you for identifying opportunities for reducing EMS costs out of the design or manufacturing solution and in this case, this is a very good reason to seek a second source EMS partner.

Do your due diligence and make sure you understand the difference between what’s happening today with your current EMS partner and what you expect to be happening going forward with him and/or your new EMS sourcing solution.

It’s easy to point the finger at your EMS partner and say things aren’t working, but be open to considering it might also be your internal organization that’s contributing or causing the problems. Be prepared to look at both sides.
